Automotive Adhesives - Application Guidelines for Automotive Adhesives
Automotive adhesives refer to various adhesives and sealants used in the production process of automobiles, including five major types of adhesives used in automotive welding, painting, final assembly of engines, chassis components, and manufacturing processes. A high-quality modern car involves the application of over 30 types of adhesives, which play important roles in component reinforcement, fastening and anti loosening, sealing and rust prevention, vibration and noise reduction, thermal insulation and noise reduction, interior and exterior decoration, and simplified manufacturing processes of automotive products.
The continuous improvement of automotive adhesives and the development and application of new varieties of automotive adhesives are flourishing, involving the five major types of adhesives required for the entire manufacturing process of automobiles, with more than 40 varieties of different sizes. With the continuous development of China's chemical industry, the increasing abundance of raw materials, and the continuous innovation of synthesis methods and production equipment, the variety of adhesives suitable for automobiles will continue to increase. In the future, the variety of adhesives for automobiles will develop towards green and environmentally friendly, high-performance, and multifunctional directions. Water based adhesives, hot melt adhesives, low-density plastisol, high-strength structural adhesives, etc. that meet the requirements of automotive product use and process performance will be more widely used.

& nbsp; & nbsp; Adhesives have many characteristics such as wide application range, easy use, and high economic benefits. With the development of the economy and the advancement of technology, synthetic adhesives are increasingly replacing mechanical bonding, and their applications have expanded to fields such as wood, processing, construction, automotive, light industry, clothing, packaging, printing and binding, electronics, communication, aerospace, mechanical manufacturing, and daily life. It has now become a highly promising fine chemical industry. With the development of the automotive industry, the development and application of high-performance and high-quality automotive adhesives are increasingly valued by people. Adhesives have special functions and practical value, and are widely used in automobile production. There are over 10000 types of adhesives suitable for different purposes in the world, and the selection of adhesives should be based on the following four indicators.
nine hundred and one
& nbsp; & nbsp; Medium resistance performance
& nbsp; & nbsp; Air, water, oil, acid, and other substances are collectively referred to as individual qualities. The vast majority of adhesives have the best resistance to air media and the highest bonding strength of the bonded parts in air. However, the adhesive strength varies greatly in different types of gases or annotated media, and even differs significantly from the main materials used in the working process, such as air, water, oil, and acid. When using adhesives, choose adhesives that are resistant to the medium of use. Adhesive strength. Every 1cm² The destructive force of the bonding surface at room temperature and in air medium is called the bonding strength, expressed in MPa. Adhesive strength can be divided into tensile strength, shear strength, torsional shear strength, and peel strength length, which respectively refer to the failure strength of the adhesive in different directions of force. When choosing an adhesive, the appropriate strength adhesive should be chosen based on the location and stress conditions of the mechanical parts.
& nbsp; & nbsp; Temperature resistance performance
& nbsp; & nbsp; The temperature range that the fully cured adhesive layer can withstand, such as a certain temperature resistance of -60 ℃ to 120 ℃, means that the adhesive can be applied within the range of -60 ℃ to 120 ℃. If this limit is exceeded, the adhesive strength will significantly decrease. The air-cooled engine in construction machinery can reach a body temperature of up to 130 ℃. The hydraulic oil temperature can reach 120 ℃, and when selecting adhesive, it must be within the temperature range that the adhesive can withstand.
nine hundred and two
& nbsp; & nbsp; Curing time
& nbsp; & nbsp; The curing time can be divided into initial curing (or fixed) time and full curing time. It refers to the time required for the adhesive to transform into a solid adhesive at room temperature during bonding. Initial solidification refers to the time required for the adhesive layer to withstand the adhesive without detachment due to its own weight; Full solidification refers to the time required for the adhesive layer to fully cure and achieve the highest adhesive strength and optimal medium resistance. Adhesives can be divided into two types based on their initial curing time: instant drying adhesive (or fast drying adhesive) and slow drying adhesive. The initial curing time of instant glue is only a few seconds or tens of seconds. If the curing time of slow drying glue needs to be shortened, heating measures such as thermal blowing and oven baking can be used, but the heating temperature and time should be determined according to different types of glue. Choose instant or slow drying adhesive type, depending on the different conditions and work needs of the adhesive parts. Generally speaking, the adhesive strength and medium resistance of slow drying adhesive are better than those of instant drying adhesive.
